While training at No. 1 Central Navigation School at Three Rivers, Manitoba he was killed in a flying accident due to bad weather.

Born in Birmingham, England, the son of John Edward and Mary Ann (nee Dunn) Carter. The family immigrated to Canada. He attended Oshawa Collegiate and Vocational Institute. He was employed at General Motors in Oshawa prior to enlisting.

Commemorated on page 63 of the Second World War Book of Remembrance. There is a Tribute to him on the Roll Call of Honour website.
Four airmen lost their lives when their Anson (#6069) aircraft hit the ground near Newdale, Manitoba, Canada. The aircrew of the Anson were on a navigation exercise when the accident happened.
